LINDA LISTENS

During the years Linda has been on Council, the last four as your Mayor, she always listens to the desires, wishes and concerns of you, the residents and businesses of Vaughan. She has always represented all the communities of Vaughan and understands the needs of the various segments of Vaughan's population.

LINDA HAS A COMMITMENT TO LOW TAXES

Linda has shown fiscally responsible leadership which has resulted in Vaughan's ability to maintain some of the lowest tax rates in the Greater Toronto Area. The residential property tax increase for 2010 will be approximately $29.81 a year on an average home assessed at $459,367 or a 2.65 per cent tax increase.

Only 25 per cent of your property taxes go to the City of Vaughan for services such as fire and rescue services, snow clearing, waste collection, road maintenance, libraries, parks, recreational services and other programs.

LINDA HAS SUCCESSFULLY FOUGHT FOR YOU

Linda will not back down from a fight if she feels that your best interests are at risk. This is true whether the aggressor is another level of government or an inappropriate development proposal.

LINDA WILL ENSURE THE SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITIES

Safety of our communities is uppermost in her mind. Police, Fire and EMS services must keep pace with development to ensure the continued well being of our neighbourhoods.

Under Linda's leadership, municipalities throughout Canada now look to Vaughan as a leader in stamping out marijuana grow ops and clandestine labs because of a co-ordinated effort between the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service and York Regional Police. Linda had advocated for many years, the need for an additional fire hall in Woodbridge and in 2007 her dream was finally realized with the opening of a new fire hall/EMS station in Woodbridge (Scott Somerville Fire and Rescue Station 7-9). Linda was also very pleased with the recent announcement to build a new fire station on Dufferin Street near Teston Road to serve the community of Upper Thornhill and North Maple.

LINDA IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING VAUGHAN'S QUALITY OF LIFE

The City of Vaughan offers families and visitors an abundance of green spaces; exciting tourist attractions; diverse entertainment venues; cultural centres and modern recreation facilities; clean and safe neighbourhoods. Linda is committed to always looking for ways to improve Vaughan's quality of life and a recent example was the opening of the North Thornhill Community Centre, a modern state of the art facility to serve our ever growing community.
